I've been keeping a secret.
A new book is coming...
I know I said I was taking a break from writing. My sales are less than stellar, but a writer writes…
I almost told you three times.
Once when I finished the first draft at midnight and sat there staring at the screen not quite believing it existed. Once when the cover came together and I had to physically stop myself from posting it everywhere. And once last month, when I was editing a scene so tense I had to put the laptop down and walk around the block.
But I wanted to wait until it was real. Until I had something to actually put in your hands.
So. Here’s what I’ve been working on.
Her Other Patient is a psychological thriller about a therapist named Kathy Myers who realizes the man stalking her patient might be her own husband. It’s about gaslighting, grief, and what happens when a woman who has spent her career teaching others to trust themselves finally has to do it for herself.
It’s the most personal story I’ve written. I don’t want to say too much yet — but I will say this: I’ve been afraid of this book in the best possible way.
Here’s a small taste of where it starts:
“You’ve got it set to sixty-two.”
I looked at the thermostat. The digital display read sixty-eight now, the number he’d just set it to. I tried to picture myself standing in front of it that morning, my hand on the dial, the number glowing. But the images wouldn’t hold. They slid apart like wet paper, and what I was left with was the memory of having done it without the memory of doing it.
“I was sure,” I said, but my voice came out thinner than I meant it to.
I’m looking for ARC readers who want an early copy in exchange for an honest review posted on launch day. It’s not ready yet, so if you review The Man at the Window, I’ll reach out when the time comes!
More soon. I’ve been sitting on this for months and it feels very good to finally say it out loud.
